How do you make healthier homemade pizza? Homemade pizza is one of my favorite recipes to make on a busy night. I even grew up eating it every Sunday night when we had family pizza night. Do you love homemade pizza but think it takes too long to make? Do you find yourself reaching for a frozen pizza but feeling guilty? Let me show you how to make a healthier homemade pizza.

It’s a family tradition that at least one night a week we do homemade pizza and I learned a long time ago as a new mom and registered dietitian that when you designate one night of the week as a certain “meal” night, it makes meal planning a whole lot easier! 

Homemade pizza night can be super easy, fast to prepare and healthier with these three tips! 

1.Grate your own cheese for healthier homemade pizza.

When you grate your own cheese, you get better melting compared to pre-grated cheeses that are meant to not stick together in the bag they are packaged inside of. Try using a combination of mozzarella, Parmesan and Muenster for really great flavor. I’m using the Adjustable Double Grater.

2. Always add vegetables to healthier homemade pizza.

Having the right tools in your kitchen to quickly prep vegetables can make ALL the difference in how you eat. Yes, you need a good knife. BUT you don’t need to chop everything by hand. Make it more fun with one of the tools I share in my video below. The Manual Food Processor is a top favorite!

3. For crisp, yet tender crusts, bake your pizza on a pizza stone.

If you want to have your crust taste like it came out of a pizzeria, then you absolutely need a pizza stone. I love my pizza stone – I have had it for 20 years and it’s also great for baking cookies and roasting vegetables on as well. 

I use my Pampered Chef Pizza Stone (in the video I’m using the Rectangle Stone from Pampered Chef) and I love how the new design (since September 2020) allows for preheating the stone in the oven before you slide the pizza in, and it’s also dishwasher safe.
